7 Reasons Why Freshwater Pearls Rock! by pearlrevolution

That’s right, I said it, freshwater pearls rock!  If the first image that just crossed your mind was Aunt Bea, Marge Simpson, or your Grandma wearing a simple white string of pearls you are required to read the rest of this article.

Start at the top and you have either saltwater or freshwater, beneath that they are categorized by shape and beneath that they are categorized by luster or finish.  A closer look at Aunt Bea’s pearls and you would likely find that they are of the saltwater variety, possibly fake but for now we will give the old girl some credit.  But I digress; let’s discuss the reasons for which they rock.

Quality – Jewelers will tell you that freshwater pearls are inferior, primarily because the price is higher on the saltwater pearls and they make more money on them.  Freshwater pearls in every range rival their saltwater cousins.  Don’t be fooled by the hype.  Go freshwater and have the extra coin in your pocket to buy that sexy little summer dress.  The combination may be volatile though so I can’t be held responsible for all the necks that snap to look your way.

Affordability – I said affordable not cheap.  Pearls are beads, some beads are pearls, some are not.  Prices for a very nice pearl necklace start at around $30.  Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone if you go out spend the money you saved on a nice pair of shoes or something.

Variety – Many people don’t even realize that pearls come in any shapes other than round.  Freshwater pearls vary in shape from spheres to coins, sticks, crosses, and many other interesting looks.  The variety in shapes gives jewelry designers more freedom to build truly unique creations.

Flexibility – Because they are affordable you can build out your collection with a lot more items and accessorize until you can’t stand it anymore.  Combine your necklaces for a unique layered look that has almost unlimited combinations and looks.  Take a simple outfit and make it eye popping with an opera length necklace.

Durability – Yes, you guessed it, freshwater pearls are actually more durable than their saltwater cousins.  The outer layer on a freshwater pearl is thicker and will last longer.  Now get ready for the best part.  They actually last longer the more you wear them.  Your natural body oils are good for your pearls, just try not to get too much perfume, hairspray, or makeup on them.

Colors – Freshwater pearls come in many naturally ocurring shades such as light pink, beige, lavender, or a light purple.  As if that weren’t enough, they can even be dyed to fit that killer outfit you just bought for that special summer event.  Try to picture Aunt Bea in a string of hot pink nugget pearls with some funky quartz crystals sprinkled in for good measure.

Uniqueness – You have my personal guarantee that you will get noticed with genuine freshwater pearls.  It’s hard to explain but they just have an aura about them that brings out the natural beauty of the lady wearing them.

I bet you’re ready to go out and buy the funkiest freshwater pearl necklace you can find right about now and start banging your head to some screaming guitar.  If you are, welcome to the pearl revolution.
